For three decades, Jay Culotta has demonstrated the extraordinary power of one person’s commitment to a cause. Through Run for Hannah, a peer-to-peer fundraising effort inspired by his daughter, Hannah Rose, Jay transformed a single marathon into a remarkable community movement, rallying hundreds of supporters on behalf of individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
What began 30 years ago as a personal challenge has grown into an enduring tradition of philanthropy, bringing together friends, family, runners, donors, and corporate partners around a shared vision of inclusion and hope. Along the way, Jay’s dedication has generated meaningful support for programs, services, and research that improve lives every day.
In 2023, that commitment reached a new milestone with the creation of the Hannah Rose Culotta Endowed Research Fund at Kennedy Krieger Institute, made possible through the support of The Wawa Foundation and an annual matching challenge designed to sustain impact for generations to come.
On November 29, 2025, Jay crossed the finish line of his 30th and final Run for Hannah. Together, the campaign has raised more than $1.2 million, a total that continues to grow through generous donor-advised fund contributions and ongoing corporate support.
In recognition of his extraordinary leadership and lasting impact, Jay was honored with the prestigious Zanvyl Krieger Award, celebrating a legacy that will continue to inspire and benefit families for years to come. Jay was joined by his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Hannah, when he accepted the award at Kennedy Krieger’s Annual Society Reception in June 2026.
Just as impressive as the dollars raised are the lasting relationships Jay built throughout the journey. He has exemplified partnership, stewardship, and gratitude, always keeping supporters connected to the impact of their generosity.
Reflecting on the past three decades, Jay credits those who stood beside him every step of the way. “I am incredibly blessed to have had such strong community support over the years, allowing me to play a small role in helping individuals with Down syndrome and their families,” he said. “Inspired by my daughter and driven by perseverance and the incredible work performed at Kennedy Krieger Institute, I’ve been able to accomplish more than I ever could have imagined.”
