The Center for Developmental Behavioral Health is a multi-disciplinary outpatient mental health clinic in a specialty pediatric and rehabilitation hospital located in Baltimore, MD. It is dedicated to providing high quality, culturally relevant, consumer driven and comprehensive services for children and their families. The Center for Developmental Behavioral Health provides services to children and families facing complex psychiatric, medical and developmental challenges. This includes conditions such as anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias), mood disorders (e.g., depression, bipolar disorder, and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, DMDD), externalizing behaviors (e.g., oppositional behavior, conduct problems, hyperactivity, impulsivity) and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (e.g., Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Hair Pulling Disorder, Tourette Syndrome). Clients range in age from elementary school age to young adulthood. Training strongly supports and encourages the utilization of evidence-based and evidence-informed practice in all clinical work within our multidisciplinary setting
Activities for interns include:
- Diagnostic Evaluations: Interns will learn to compete diagnostic evaluations using standardized methodology. They will receive supervision focused on diagnostic clarification.
- Psychological Testing: Interested interns will have the opportunity to administer intelligence, achievement, executive functioning and/or personality testing and write integrated reports. Interns interested in completing testing will receive supervision and will be required to attend weekly assessment rounds.
- Therapy Experience: Interns will carry a minimum of 15 therapy cases during the internship year and will receive one hour of supervision per week. Supervision is included for all clinical activities. Interns will receive parent management cases, OCD/Tic cases, as well as cases from our general waitlist (e.g., ADHD, autism, intellectual disabilities, depression, anxiety, medical complexities, etc).
- Didactic Seminar: Interns have the opportunity to attend seminars on topics including OCD/Tic, psychological assessment, evidence based-practices seminar (focusing on MATCH and other family systems, parent management, and cultural considerations), neuropsychiatric research and developmental disabilities.
- Peer Supervision: Interns have the opportunity to provide peer supervision with a psychology extern. Supervision of the supervisory experience will also be provided to give guidance and support around learning how to supervise clinical cases and professional development support.
Optional activities include a variety of didactic experiences that are based on individual needs, interests and time. Current offerings include participation in research studies, co-leading psychotherapy groups and parent management training groups. In addition, interns can participate in seminars on neuropsychological assessment though the Department of Neuropsychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute. However, these additional training activities may require a modest commitment of additional time.
