Very Special People Get A Hearty Thanks
|WHEN:||Friday, May 4, 2001
Johns Hopkins University, Levering Hall
3400 North Charles Street
|WHAT:||15 years ago, Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) helped pioneer the new concept of therapeutic foster care here in Maryland Kennedy Krieger. Now, May is celebrated as National Foster Parent Month.
KKI is hosting an appreciation dinner to honor the dedicated individuals and families that make up the Therapeutic Foster Care, Adoption and Respite Care Program. During this event, 22 families will be honored for their years of service in the program, and the love and support that they provide to the children whom they foster, adopt and provide respite care. The evening will include dinner, dancing and a Luau costume contest.
The Kennedy Krieger Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoptions Program provides a continuum of family-based services to children and adolescents with special needs. Services include therapeutic foster care, respite care, adoption, parent or foster parent training and technical assistance to the community. A primary goal of the program is to ensure a permanent home, whether that means a return to the biological parents, kinship care, adoption or, in rare instances, retention in therapeutic foster care due to very unique circumstances.
