Scheduling Plan
Once a protocol has been approved by the APRC, a protocol name will be created for the PI. Then booking can be performed via the online booking system. (Please follow the Schedule Manual.)
Note that we use 2-hour increments, i.e. 2h,4h, 6h, 8h, etc time slots, to optimize usage by as many investigators as possible. For users who want to schedule four-hour scans, please schedule start from 9:00 am or 1:00 pm to leave enough time on the same day for other users.
Billing occurs monthly. A billing contact person needs to be specified for our administrators to contact in case of issues. Payment will be by check for JHU users and automated billing for KKI users. Future grant applications in JHU should contain a subcontract to KKI, which will allow direct billing.
Charges will be for the booked time. Cancellation before the booked time is required to avoid charges. Cancellation time depends on the booked scan time, i.e. 24 hours for a 2-hour scan, 48 hours for a 4-hour scan, and 72 hours for scan time longer than 4 hours. Upon cancellation within the required time the other users will be e-mailed and if a replacement user is found no charges will be applied. Refusal to pay charges may lead to loss of access privileges.

There is limited opportunity for users to have the facility personnel perform their experiments, e.g. during the absence of a postdoc.
The rate for this is an additional $100 per hour above the hourly rate.
Acknowledgment
One of the Center’s core missions is to provide researchers with access to state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technology. Maintaining and upgrading these systems to the highest standards requires substantial investment, and we are fortunate to have secured NIH funding to support these efforts. Most notably, the recent upgrade of our 11.7T scanner to its current advanced capabilities was made possible through an NIH High-End Instrumentation Grant.
In accordance with NIH guidelines, any publications utilizing data from the upgraded scanner must acknowledge this award. This recognition not only underscores the impact of NIH funding but also helps ensure continued eligibility for future grants.
If your research involves data from the upgraded 11.7T scanner, please include the following acknowledgment in your publications:
“The MRI equipment used in this study was funded by NIH grant S10OD032188.”
Additionally, if applicable, please ensure this acknowledgment is included in the PMC (NIHMS) version of your papers.
We recognize that this request may require an additional step in your publication process, and we sincerely appreciate your cooperation. Your support is crucial in maintaining the Center’s ability to provide advanced research tools.
Furthermore, all users should include the following statement in their publications:
“The F.M. Kirby Research Center is acknowledged for providing experimental resources, and we extend our gratitude to Dr. Bibic and Ms. Akhter for their support and expertise.”
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
