We need joy as we need air. We need love as we need water. We need each other as we need the earth we share. – Maya Angelou

Dear Friend of WIN,

This past year has brought back a sense of normalcy, as our Kennedy Krieger Institute and Women’s Initiative Network communities have been able to gather to celebrate, volunteer, raise funds, create awareness and generate new interest in this wonderful group of women and supporters. Please enjoy this photo montage that highlights our successes and most joyful moments over the past year! Be sure to scroll all the way down to discover what lies ahead, and how you can continue to get involved!

Thank you, as always, for the many ways you help bring joy into the lives of our patients and families at the Institute! We're looking forward to a prosperous and busy 2023!

Fall Fete

Supported a celebration of all things fall and fashion in the first in-person Fall Fête at Green Spring Station since 2019. WIN members and patients volunteered to grace the catwalk and join in the fun, all to benefit Kennedy Krieger.

Child Life Lunch

Brought WIN Wednesdays back!! This beloved, members-only opportunity is for WIN members to volunteer in Kennedy Krieger’s Child Life and Therapeutic Recreation Department playroom. In December, WIN provided lunch and treats for the program's amazing staff members!

WIN members

Welcomed over a dozen new members! We are excited to see this group continue to grow and make such a positive impact on the Kennedy Krieger community.

Hats & Horses

Hosted our annual Hats & Horses event, raising over $400,000 to support the clinical trial of PediaCORE (after first postponing, reimagining and holding a successful campaign entirely online!).

Member Luncheon

Hosted our annual member luncheon, bringing together senior Institute leaders and clinicians with our amazing WIN members for a memorable and impactful experience and conversation.

Collected and packaged over 200 toiletry bags and donated boxes of snacks for families of patients at the Institute at a membership event at Laura Wille’s home. Over 40 women participated, many of whom were new to WIN.

Donated hundreds of gifts from the Institute’s Amazon wish list for our Snoasis program, which provides gifts for patients’ families over the holidays.

Development of Multimedia Mental Health Campaign
Through fundraising efforts from this year’s Fall Fête and Barrels & Bonfires, WIN successfully raised more than $34,200, which will support the creation and implementation of a multimedia mental health campaign that will provide tools for teenagers to support their mental health. These tools will go beyond awareness and give tangible information on how to approach care and expectations about treatment. A collaborative and talented group of Institute experts has convened and begun planning. Stay tuned to see this timely campaign unfold.
