Kennedy Krieger Occupational Therapists provide evaluation and treatment services to patients in the following Kennedy Krieger inpatient units:
- Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit (PRU)
- Pediatric Feeding Disorders Unit
- Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU)
Our occupational therapists assist patients regain independence in daily activities after illness or injury, working on feeding, dressing, fine/gross motor skills, sensory issues, and cognitive/social skills.
Based on the individual needs of the child, occupational therapists on our inpatient units will work with our patients on the following:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Motor Skills: Improve fine (handwriting, playing) and gross (upper body movement, coordination) motor skills.
- Sensory & Cognitive: Address sensory processing, attention, self-regulation, and functional cognition.
- Adaptive Solutions: Recommend and train on adaptive equipment (splints, shower seats).
- Play-Based Therapy: Use fun, engaging activities to meet therapeutic goals, often alongside Child Life Specialists.
