About

Dr. Tarila Abbott is a clinical psychologist in the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Abbott’s treatment approach utilizes developmentally informed and whole-family interventions that are evidence-based, personalized, and practical. 

Dr. Abbott strives to bring a positive energy to interventions and real-life skills work to help families make important changes in their lives. Dr. Abbott’s expertise is family therapy and treatment of mood disorders in children and adolescents.

Education

Dr. Abbott received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida State University, before continuing her education at Florida Institute of Technology, where she received her MS and PsyD in clinical child psychology. She completed her APA accredited doctoral internship in clinical and school psychology at the Milton Hershey School, and her APA accredited post-doctoral fellowship at Kennedy Krieger Institute and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Abbott has been a licensed psychologist in Maryland since 2021. She is also an active member of Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). Dr. Abbott is extensively trained in evidence-based therapy in emotional and behavioral disorders. Dr. Abbott uses a range of therapeutic modalities including, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Parent–Child Interaction Therapy and Functional Family Therapy.
