About

Dr. Kate McCalla is the clinical director at the Center for Developmental Behavioral Health (DBH) at Kennedy Krieger Institute. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in assessment, diagnosis and intervention to address autism spectrum disorder (ASD), other neurodevelopmental disabilities, and related behavioral and emotional challenges.

Education

Dr. McCalla graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University. She received her PhD in Medical/Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a clinical and research focus on neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. McCalla acquired training in state-of-the-art assessment, treatment, and research methods as a resident at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine/TEACCH Autism Program and as a postdoctoral fellow at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Research

Dr. McCalla’s research interests include the implementation of best practices to address mental health challenges faced by individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families, with a current focus on suicide prevention for autistic youth.
