Dr. Cheung is a staff psychologist at the Fairmount location of the Child and Family Therapy Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute. She also serves as a supervisor and co-director for the clinic’s APA approved doctoral training program. Dr. Cheung completed her internship in Kennedy Krieger’s Department of Behavioral Psychology.
Education
Dr. Cheung received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University. She continued her education at Auburn University where she received her master’s degree and PhD in clinical psychology with a focus in childhood victimization and externalizing behavior problems. She completed her doctoral internship at Kennedy Krieger Institute and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with rotations in the Child and Family Therapy and Behavior Management clinics.
Dr. Cheung has worked professionally as a psychologist in private practice in North Carolina and as an adjunct instructor at William Peace University. Dr. Cheung has been licensed in the State of Maryland since 2022. She is also credentialed with the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT).
Dr. Cheung’s utilizes a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Parent Management Training, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to treat various internalizing and externalizing concerns. Dr. Cheung believes that change occurs within the family context. Thus, Dr. Cheung utilizes a family-based approach with all her patients to maximize treatment effectiveness. Dr. Cheung also utilizes this framework with her trainees through both direct instruction and clinical supervision.
