About
Dr. Aila Dommestrup is a licensed psychologist and doctoral level board-certified behavior analyst at the Center for Developmental Behavioral Health (DBH) at Kennedy Krieger Institute and an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Dommestrup specializes in the assessment and treatment of challenging behavior exhibited by individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities as well as other mental health diagnoses. She also provides caregiver education and training in behavioral interventions.
Education
Dr. Dommestrup graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Syracuse University. She received her PhD in School Psychology with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorders from the University of Georgia. Dr. Dommestrup completed her doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship through The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/Kennedy Krieger Institute. She previously served as a supervising psychologist with the Neurobehavioral Unit at Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Research Summary
Dr. Dommestrup’s research interests include improving the generalization of behavioral interventions across meaningful contexts/outcomes for individuals and their caregivers, staff and caregiver education and training in behavioral interventions and decision making, and exploring the behavioral phenotypes of genetic syndromes, including 1p36 deletion syndrome.
