The Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute is committed to training and equipping Maryland faith leaders with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to foster disability inclusion. This work promotes a sense of belonging and community participation that enhances the quality of life, health and well-being of individuals with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities, as well as their families. Dr. Mirian Ofonedu, PhD, LCSW-C, director of training for the MCDD, was recently interviewed by Dr. Lora Hargrove, director of faith outreach for the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives. Visit the office’s website to watch the interview. In this thoughtful conversation, Dr. Ofonedu shares insights on faith-based inclusion and the importance of building welcoming communities for individuals with disabilities.
The office has issued certificates of appreciation to faith leaders who have participated in the MCDD’s two-day in-person training for faith leaders, recognizing their dedication to fostering inclusive environments for people with disabilities and their families in faith communities. The faith leaders were honored during the MCDD’s annual faith leaders conference on June 26. Together, these efforts reflect a growing movement to ensure that all members of the community are seen, valued and included.
