The Next Chapter for People On the Go Maryland

People On the Go Maryland (POG) began in 1989 as a grassroots movement that grew out of The Arc Maryland’s statewide advocacy efforts. From the beginning, POG was led by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who wanted to create a stronger voice for inclusion, equality and leadership across Maryland. In 2013, the organization partnered with the MCDD, and Kennedy Krieger became its fiscal and administrative sponsor. POG attained 501(c)(3) status in 2024, allowing it to become an independent organization.

Supporting Wicomico County Public Schools Through the Maryland Elevates Grant

In fiscal year 2024, the MCDD successfully submitted a grant application for funding through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Division of Special Education, Maryland Elevates Grant Program. The funds are being used to support special education and related services in Wicomico County.

ABLE Accounts: Saving Money While Applying for or Receiving Public Benefits

Many public benefits programs, including Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and certain Medicaid programs, limit the amount of money a person can save while remaining eligible for benefits. These programs also have rules that may reduce or eliminate benefits when an individual receives money from someone else.

Artificial Intelligence and the IEP Process: Benefits and Considerations for Parents

As artificial intelligence (AI) tools become more common and available, many parents are beginning to use them to support communication with school staff members and to navigate the individualized education program (IEP) process. While these tools can offer meaningful benefits, it is also important to consider potential harms of overreliance on AI-generated content.

MCDD 2026 Annual Learning Series

The MCDD’s 2026 Annual Learning Series runs from February through October. The series consists of virtual continuing education workshops (CEUs available), each three hours in length, with interdisciplinary topics focused on working with individuals with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities, and their families.

Autism Research and Engagement Core Updates

The Autism Research and Engagement Core team continues to contribute to national research efforts, publishing timely articles and reports that explore key issues facing the autism community.

Trainee Spotlight

The MCDD is excited to welcome several new trainees to its formalized preservice training program.
