Beginning January 1, 2027, new federal work and renewal requirements for healthcare coverage under Medicaid will go into effect. Kennedy Krieger is eager to connect staff and patient families with information and resources about the new federal work and renewal requirements for Medicaid.

Medicaid Check-In 2027

Federal Medicaid Rules are Changing in 2027

To keep their coverage, some adults may need to:

  • Work or do 80 hours of approved activities in a single month
  • Renew their Medicaid more than once a year. Right now, you do not need to do anything.

These changes will not start until 2027.

For now, it’s a good idea to:

  • Keep your contact information up to date in your account
  • Report changes to your income or family in your account
  • Open and read letters from Maryland Health Connection

How To Stay Informed

Kennedy Krieger encourages patients and families to visit Maryland Health Connection's Medicaid Check-In website for the latest information. Maryland Health Connection will send you a letter in September 2026 if you will need to meet work requirements when you renew your coverage in 2027.
