About
Megan Baumgardner, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist at Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Developmental Behavioral Health and an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Baumgardner specializes in treating children and adolescents experiencing acute and chronic pain, functional somatic symptoms, chronic medical conditions, anxiety and depression. She utilizes a variety of evidence-based interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness/relaxation training, trauma-focused CBT and parent management training.
Education
Dr. Baumgardner graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Psychology. She earned her MEd in Child Studies, with a concentration in Clinical and Developmental Research, from Vanderbilt University and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Baumgardner completed her predoctoral internship in integrated pediatric primary care at River Valley Health in Knoxville, TN. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the Pediatric Medical Psychology Program at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Baumgardner has extensive training in assessment, consultation, and intervention for youth and families in multidisciplinary outpatient medical clinics, inpatient medical and psychiatric units, and outpatient therapy settings.
Research Summary
Dr. Baumgardner’s research focuses on understanding the role of cognitive, affective and familial factors implicated in the etiology, maintenance and treatment of pediatric anxiety and chronic pain. Her research aims to inform prevention and early intervention programs for youth and their families.
