About

Dr. Briayanna Johnson is a first-year child clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow in Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Neuropsychological and Psychological Assessment. She works with children, adolescent, and their families across a broad range of ages and presenting concerns in an assessment context, including via the, Executive Functioning Clinic, Targeted Assessment Clinic, Follow Up Clinic. and Pathways Clinic. 

Education

Dr. Johnson earned her BA in Psychology and African American Studies from Temple University. She completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology at Howard University. She also completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship in Health Service Psychology at Momentous Institute in Dallas, Texas. 

Research

Dr. Johnson has worked as a Graduate Research Assistant with the HHMS-AGEP Alliance (Howard, Hampton, Morgan State – Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate), where she conducted qualitative and quantitative studies examining the lived experiences of Black STEM doctoral students at HBCUs. Her work explored themes of academic socialization, sense of belonging and identity development within historically Black academic spaces. Her broader research interests include inter-generational trauma, academic and career self-efficacy, African American financial socialization and the economic empowerment of marginalized communities. Dr. Johnson has presented at national conferences on topics such as mindfulness, Black grief and social justice, the Black family and the unique challenges and strengths of HBCU doctoral students. During fellowship, Dr. Johnson is eager to expand her research and clinical expertise by working with patients and families from diverse medical, developmental, and cultural backgrounds, integrating her commitment to equity, healing, and empowerment into both scholarship and practice.
