Program Manager for the Dr. James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Graduate Fellowship Program.

Carson Peters, MPH is the program manager for the Dr. James A. Ferguson RISE fellowship at Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Excellence in Public Health Leadership. Peters specializes in advancing structural access in both education and public health spaces. She has coordinated public health pathway programs at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and managed educational initiatives and programming across colleges and universities. Previously, Peters was an instructor at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. She also has served as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees and fellows. She is passionate about advancing pathways for the next generation of public health scholars, change agents and thought leaders.

Peters’ public health portfolio includes digital health and artificial intelligence, maternal and child health, and sexual and reproductive health. She has conducted preliminary research on infectious diseases and program evaluation in Brazil, India, South Africa and Zambia. Her education research portfolio includes student-centered programming, belonging and educational navigation. Her mixed methods research also involves community engagement and community academic partnerships. She has conducted research at the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Clinical Center, Harvard Global Health Institute, Harvard School of Public Health and University of Maryland. Peters also worked on Capitol Hill for the late Honorable Congressman John Lewis, related to her public policy and advocacy interests.

Peters completed her doctoral training at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. She has a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Iowa College of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology of Global Health from Grinnell College. She has also been the recipient of pathway programs during her academic training.
