Dr. Aysha Jawed is an assistant director of the Center for Excellence in Public Health Leadership at Kennedy Krieger Institute and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She also holds a joint faculty appointment in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is also a senior lecturer in both the School of Public Health and the Department of English at the University of Maryland, College Park, reflecting her interdisciplinary expertise at the intersection of health, communication, and education. 

Dr. Jawed has authored more than 30 peer‑reviewed publications, with a research and practice portfolio centered on health communication as a driver of patient and family education, public health practice, leadership development and evidence‑based care. Her scholarship spans clinical, public health, and digital health contexts, with a particular emphasis on translating complex medical and public health information into accessible, culturally responsive messaging for diverse populations. Her work integrates mixed-methods research, digital health communication, and implementation science to address critical challenges in pediatric care, particularly for children with medical complexity and populations experiencing health disparities. She has led or contributed to externally funded projects focused on tool development, misinformation analysis, and improving care delivery and health communication strategies across systems. 

Prior to her academic and leadership roles, Dr. Jawed spent over 14 years as a pediatric social worker at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. This extensive clinical experience continues to shape her research, teaching and practice-focused scholarship, grounding her work in the lived experiences of children, families and interdisciplinary care teams. 

Dr. Jawed is recognized for excellence in teaching and mentorship and received the Teaching Excellence Award in 2024 from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life and Palliative Care and contributes to national interdisciplinary efforts to advance health outcomes through communication, leadership and systems-level innovation.
