Dr. Sasha Greenspan is a program administrator for the Dr. James A. Ferguson RISE (EID) fellowship. She received a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, environmental Science, and the history and philosophy of science from Wesleyan University. She went on to complete a Master of Science in biology from the University of Maine, a doctorate in biology from James Cook University, and a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Alabama.
Dr. Greenspan dedicated 16 years to research in emerging infectious disease ecology and wildlife conservation, specializing in the impacts of climate change and anthropogenic landscape disturbance on a globally distributed fungal pathogen responsible for recent population collapses and extinctions of the world’s amphibian fauna. She has conducted research across the U.S., Central and South America, and Australia, and held research positions as an ecologist and field biologist with the National Park Service, Maine Natural Areas Program, University of Georgia Marine Institute, Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway, La Selva Biological Station and the Amphibian Foundation, offering enriching experiences in mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students as they begin careers in field and laboratory research. Expanding her career to human health, she managed the Pediatric Neuroimaging Core at Emory University’s Marcus Autism Center, where she focused on leading MRI research in early brain development, reducing barriers to community research participation and mentoring research and healthcare trainees.
As program manager for the Ferguson RISE fellowship program, Dr. Greenspan is committed to supporting the next generation of scientists as they forge their career paths and applying her experience in academic and research administration to ensure the smooth and productive operations of this impactful public health initiative.
