Dr. Aysha Jawed is an assistant director in the Center for Excellence in Public Health Leadership at Kennedy Krieger Institute and an assistant professor of Pediatrics in the Division of General Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She was also a clinical pediatric social worker at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, and a leader and educator in the hospital’s social work department for thirteen years. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Department of English and School of Public Health. She teaches several undergraduate classes in rhetoric and composition and both graduate and undergraduate classes in public health informatics, global health, and Capstone research. 

Her scholarly work is primarily centered in health information exchange to inform directions for patient and family education, health promotion and health equity. She has led and been involved in several grant awarded research and advocacy projects to address health disparities for children and their families, including in tobacco cessation, SIDS reduction and equitable access to prescribed medications. Her work has resulted in multiple publications on a range of psychosocial considerations in pediatrics. She is also involved in content analysis endeavors of existing social media content and clinical practice guidelines to assess for any implications for disparities or inequities within these communication mediums that could disproportionately impact one or more populations.
