Amino Acid Profile

In addition to pinpointing problems in amino acid absorption and determining essential amino acid imbalances, the plasma amino acid test includes evaluation of branched chain and essential and non-essential amino acids. Disorders that can be discovered through an Amino Acid Profile include: protein inadequacy, gastrointestinal insufficiencies, inflammatory responses, vitamin and mineral dysfunctions, cardiovascular disease, ammonia toxicity, food and chemical sensitivities, neurological dysfunction and inborn errors of metabolism.

TCA cycle amino acid intermediates are indicators of mitochondrial function and can indicate disorders of glucose metabolism, energy regulation, carnitine and amino acid deficiencies.
