Toilet Training for Children with Autism: Strategies for Success

This training is designed to provide user friendly strategies to facilitate toilet training with children with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental concerns. Parents and caregivers will be able to interject questions throughout the presentation and will leave with practical tools to use with their children.

Presentation Objectives:

• Identify when your child is ready for toilet training

• Discuss strategies to decrease accidents and increase appropriate voids on the toilet

• Establish a groundwork for teaching children to self-initiate and/or communicate their need to use the bathroom

Presenter:

Elizabeth “Betsy” Stratis, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, where she conducts autism diagnostic evaluations, leads social skills groups, and provides individual therapy services. She received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, where she specialized in Child Clinical Psychology and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Psychology. She completed her doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, specializing in providing behavioral therapy to youth with autism and other developmental concerns.
