People On the Go Maryland Legislative Update

The Legislative Policy Committee of People On the Go Maryland (POG) met weekly during the Maryland legislative session so members could learn how to use their voices to make a difference. POG leadership taught committee members how to navigate the Maryland General Assembly website, how to find their representative, how to watch a live feed of a legislative hearing, and how to track a bill as it moves through the legislative process. Here is what POG members said about their involvement in this committee:

“It went great! I got to listen to one of the hearings. It helped me to absorb the audio. Learning as I go along helps me with my confidence.” – Amanda

“It gave me more insight on the legislative process than I ever had before. I learned a bit more about certain bills.” – Matt

Kennedy Krieger’s director of government relations, Emily Arneson, joined the POG weekly legislative policy committee meetings. Arneson listened to committee members as they discussed current work and priorities, and she found collaboration opportunities within the Institute’s larger legislative advocacy efforts. Arneson updated committee members on pieces of legislation that Kennedy Krieger provided testimony on, so POG members were aware of the Institute’s legislative agenda and how it overlapped with POG efforts.
