About

Qui Qui PhDDr. Qin received his bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University in 1999, and his master's degree and doctor's degree from Yale University in 2001 and 2006 respectively, all in Biomedical Engineering. Since 2007, he received his postdoctoral training at the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at Johns Hopkins University, where he was promoted to Research Associate in 2009, Instructor in 2011, Assistant Professor in 2014, and Associate Professor in 2018.

Research Summary

Dr. Qin’s research studies focus on the development and validation of novel MRI techniques to facilitate clinicians’ need for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Through years of work on the methodology improvement for arterial spin labeling techniques, Dr. Qin has made substantial contribution for quantitative MR measurements of cerebral blood flow, volume, oxygenation and oxygen metabolism. In particular, his recent development on advanced velocity-selective pulse trains holds great promise for non-contrast enhanced MR angiography and perfusion mapping. Ongoing projects include clinical applications on sickle cell anemia, brain glioma, and neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. Technical developments for MR angiography and perfusion mapping on kidney, liver, breast, prostate, and placenta are underway. Optimization for quantitative T1/T2, diffusion, and perfusion mapping with accelerated reconstruction have also been initiated. A fast MRI protocol of each organ are pursued for reliable characterization of tissue related MRI relaxation parameters, cellularity, as well as vascularity information without applying contrast agents.
