This space will serve as both a beacon of possibility and a source of comfort for families navigating life’s most challenging moments. Children and young adults come to us after several weeks of inpatient care—sometimes six months or more—when they have reached a critical milestone. While they still need several hours of intensive therapy each day, they are ready to transition to our dayhospital setting. This move allows them to continue receiving expert care while spending more time with family and beginning to re-engage with daily life. Our goal is to create a seamless continuum of care that opens doors to healing, comfort, and connection. By combining innovative therapies with a homelike environment, the Innovative Care Center ensures that every child who needs transformative care can receive it without delay. Patients thrive, families remain supported, and every detail is designed to foster hope and speed recovery.

The new Innovative Care Center will allow patients arriving from acute facilities to transition seamlessly to subacute inpatient services and then to intensive day programs, filling a critical gap between inpatient treatment and traditional outpatient approaches.
The Nation’s First Care Facility-Based Family Center
In partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, we will offer a peaceful, home-like refuge, bringing warmth and familiarity to families within the Innovative Care Center. Whether it’s a restful nap, a nourishing meal, or quiet time spent together, the Ronald McDonald House at Kennedy Krieger will offer a space in which families can remain close to their loved ones, ensuring they never miss a moment in the healing journey
