About Our Program:
The Hunter Nelson Sturge-Weber Center at Kennedy Krieger Institute offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of patients with Sturge-Weber Syndrome (SWS). Our diverse faculty includes specialists in neurology, epileptology, ophthalmology, dermatology, neuroradiology, rehabilitative medicine, endocrinology, and psychiatry. These diagnostic evaluations in areas affected by SWS allow our medical professionals to identify unique medical needs and to personalize a course of treatment for each patient. With our library of SWS materials and expert staff, we also serve as a resource of information and advice for patients and their families on SWS. In addition to our clinical care, we also conduct clinical research with the objective of improving early diagnosis and treatment standards.
Primary Program Goals:
The Hunter Nelson Sturge-Weber Center is dedicated to the comprehensive medical care of patients with SWS, educating patients and families, and conducting clinical research in order to improve future treatments. The aim of every new patient visit is to establish an overall management plan that provides anticipatory guidance to the patient and family as well as recommendations to local physicians and teachers for the patient's ongoing care. The Center serves as a resource to aid ongoing care with additional comprehensive evaluations provided as issues arise.
