Movement Disorders Program (MDP)
Director:
The Movement Disorders Program (MDP) is one of three programs within the Phelps Center for Cerebral Palsy and Neurodevelopmental Medicine.
Individuals with abnormalities of tone, posture and movement, affecting care and function are evaluated and treated in the Movement Disorders Program (MDP), utilizing the expertise of Pediatric Neurology, Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Physical Therapy. The primary treatment modality utilized is oral medication to diminish hypertonicity (increased muscle tone) or treat dystonia, thereby improving ease of care, positioning and function. Consultations are obtained with regard to orthopedic management, bracing, Botox, seating, mobility and communication. Those individuals who do not respond to oral medications may be referred to the ITBP for consideration of an intrathecal baclofen pump.
