Basic Self-Advocacy Training Continues around Maryland

People On the Go Maryland, in partnership with the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration, offered a number of self-advocacy training classes in April.

Using a curriculum developed at the University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities in North Carolina, Project S.T.I.R. (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility) is taught by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to teach basic self-advocacy skills to their peers.

The training teaches individuals to speak up for themselves and advocate for themselves and others. Trainings were offered around the state, in central and southern Maryland and on the Eastern Shore.
