Holoprosencephaly Project

The Carter Center for Brain Research in Holoprosencephaly (HPE) at Kennedy Krieger Institute has focused on the pathogenesis and treatment of HPE for the past decade.  HPE, a brain malformation, is one of the etiological causes of cerebral palsy in children.  This multicenter research program utilizes a longitudinal database to characterize the natural history, neuroradiological spectrum and genetics of this rare disorder.  In addition to its research focus, the center team- Drs. Hoon, Stashinko and Levey- receives new referrals from across the country and the world and provides expert clinical evaluations for children with HPE.
