Psychotropic Medication Use at The Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress: A 4-Year Analysis

Principal Investigator:
Mariflor
Jamora

There have been recent concerns about excessive and inappropriate use of psychotropic medication in foster children, sparked by the recent GAO (Government Accountability Office) report in 2011.
Using a de-identified retrospective medical record review, this study proposes to do the following:

1. Compare the diagnosis frequently seen in foster care children vs children in non foster care settings in children seen at the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress
2. Compare psychotropic use in children in foster care vs non foster care children; with regards to types, dosage and total number of medications used.
3. Compare antipsychotic and mood stabilizer medication use over a period of 2 years; prior to release of Intuniv, and 2 years after.
