Pediatric Psychology Consultation-Liaison Services: A Review of Clinical Practice and Patterns

Principal Investigator:

Pediatric psychology consultation-liaison (CL) service is the most active form of collaboration between pediatric psychologists and health care specialists. The proposed study is a combination of retrospective record review and a prospective quality improvement/satisfaction survey collecting anonymous data. A de-identified research database will be created that will permit analysis of referral patterns and pediatric psychology CL service characteristics and facilitate ongoing program development. Demographic, medical, clinical, and behavioral data will be collected from the general Medical Record (e.g. POE, EPR, EHR) and administrative records, which were documented when the participant was seen for individual clinical services by the pediatric psychology consultation-liaison program.

Psychotherapy notes will not be accessed for this project. Additionally, an invitation to complete a web-based survey will be sent to prior referral sources (Pediatric faculty, house staff, and treatment team members) to obtain anonymous satisfaction data across multiple consultation domains (e.g., time to initiate consult, intervention outcomes, interdisciplinary communication and feedback, likelihood to re-consult). No other data will be collected and no direct contact with patients will be involved.

Aggregate results that have implications for ongoing program development and quality improvement for pediatric psychologists/clinicians who routinely consult with healthcare providers to provide clinical services to youth and their families in hospital settings will be presented outside the KKI/JHH commuity (e.g. conference presentations).
