Body Fluid Markers of Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury

Principal Investigator:
Stacy
Suskauer

The goal of this study is to identify whether blood, urine, and CSF biomarkers are predictive of short-term (1 month) outcome after pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI). We will obtain blood and urine samples from patients with TBI who, for clinical purposes, already require a blood draw and/or have a vascular catheter in place from which blood can be drawn. CSF will be obtained from patients with an external ventricular drain. Outcome will be assessed by phone interview with parent and/or medical record review 4-6 weeks post-injury.
