14th Annual Festival of Trees kicks off Thanksgiving weekend

When you combine Christmas trees, magic and illusion, the Ravens' Matt Stover, and a former governor of Maryland, what should come to mind? Why, this year's annual Festival of Trees, of course!

The 14th annual Festival of Trees kicks off Thanksgiving weekend at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. This year, Ravens' Kicker Matt Stover will join Gov. William Donald Schaeffer in a special reading of How The Grinch Stole Christmas at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, and the high-energy Speed & Thro Illusionists will make magic Friday and Saturday nights that will amaze one and all. Of course, Festival of Trees would not be complete without the more than 300 beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses designed by local artists, businesses and community groups, plus holiday crafts shopping, kids sports and activities, hourly live entertainment and Santa!

The three-day winter wonderland starts at 8:30 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving with a preview breakfast for Festival of Trees sponsors and their families. Festival of Trees opens to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday Nov. 28 and 29, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. Admission is $8 for adults, and $4 for children and seniors. Awards will be given to the top designers in various categories, and trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses will be sold to benefit Kennedy Krieger Institute.

This year's event also features a silent auction featuring special packages you can only get through Festival of Trees, including an Owner's Package for four courtesy of the Baltimore Ravens; a trip to Florida including Walt Disney World passes courtesy of JetBlue; a Michael Jordan autographed basketball; spa and beauty days; restaurant and entertainment packages and much, much more!
