MCDD Associate Director Maureen van Stone Appointed to National Academies Committee

The Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the Academies) appointed Maureen van Stone, associate director of the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) and director of Project HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy, and Law), to its Committee on Improving Health Outcomes in Children with Disabilities.

Van Stone joins a diverse group of experts who will produce a comprehensive report on federal, state, and local programs, services, and supports available to school-age children with disabilities and their families.

In their review of programs and services, the committee members will evaluate service and treatment goals and effectiveness, examine outreach efforts and utilization rates, and identify outcome measures and reporting.

“This is a critical opportunity to identify the programs that help children with disabilities to achieve their potential, study both their limitations and their effectiveness, and share our findings to improve services nationwide, particularly in under-served areas,” van Stone said.

MCDD Associate Director Maureen van Stone Named Innovator of the Year

The Daily Record named Maureen van Stone, associate director of the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD), “Innovator of the Year” on Aug. 16. Van Stone, who also directs Project HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy, and Law), accepted the award at an Oct. 20 event at Baltimore’s American Visionary Arts Museum.

The Daily Record, a newspaper on legal, business, and government matters in Maryland, began the “Innovator of the Year” awards in 2002 as a way of recognizing Marylanders and Maryland-based companies for their innovative spirit—for creating new products, new programs, new services, or new processes that have helped their companies, industries, or communities.
