Lifespan Respite Care Program Comes to Maryland

The Maryland Department of Human Services (DHR), Office of Adult Services, in partnership with more than 30 organizations and agencies throughout the state, has been awarded a Lifespan Respite Care Program grant by the Administration for Community Living. The Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities is serving on the project’s evaluation team. The three-year project, which launched on October 1, 2016, aims to establish a Lifespan Respite Care Program that will provide families caring for individuals across the disability and lifespan spectrum with knowledge and resources to support their loved ones and themselves, coupled with improved and timely access to respite care services. A significant portion of the grant funds will be committed to increasing the availability of emergency respite services for people with disabilities across the lifespan. DHR also aims to streamline and enhance user navigation of the current system and increase access to respite information and training.
