Director's Message

Over the past year, the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) developed two important community partner projects with Pathfinders for Autism and Kinera Foundation to investigate and better understand parent and family perspectives. The MCDD also celebrates the self-advocacy leadership demonstrated in Maryland this year through the passage of life-changing legislation officially ending the unfair practice of subminimum wage for people with disabilities.

I congratulate our partners at People On the Go of Maryland (and all of their partners and colleagues) for their role in this historic victory. I’d also like to acknowledge the important contributions of two outstanding MCDD summer interns: Liz Donhauser, an undergraduate from Tulane University majoring in Public Health, and Taylor Holroyd, a graduate student and Wendy Klag Scholar from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Both Liz and Taylor had the opportunity to assist on a number of critical projects. We wish them well in their future endeavors.

Finally, we are grateful for some newly developing partnerships with Kimberly Mills at the Virgin Islands UCEDD in St. Croix, as well as Carol Britton Laws at the Institute on Human Development and Disability at the University of Georgia. These partnerships offer great future opportunities to explore behavior supports, employment, direct service provider trainings, and expanding our work with higher education opportunities for persons with disabilities.
