On April 7, 2016, Maureen van Stone, the associate director, presented “An Innovative Approach to Interprofessional Training through a Medical-Legal Partnership” at the 11th Annual Medical-Legal Partnership Summit in Indianapolis, IN.

On April 28, 2016, Maureen van Stone co-presented a webinar with Margo Badawy, staff attorney from Disability Rights Virgin Islands, titled, “Expanding Our Reach! Helping Families, Including Parents with Disabilities, Manage the IFSP/IEP Process,” for the Parent to Parent Network.

On June 4, 2016, Andrew Siske, Project HEAL law trainee, hosted an MCDD exhibitor table at the Kennedy Krieger School, Fairmount Campus. The purpose of the resource fair was to connect families with foster children to disability-related services and organizations within Baltimore City. Dozens of families stopped by the table to learn about Project HEAL’s legal advocacy work and the MCDD’s estate planning services.

On June 6, 2016, Maureen van Stone and Rachel Eversole, a former fellow in the Center for Innovation and Leadership in Special Education, delivered a presentation to the CityWide Special Education Advocacy Project on the disciplinary removals of young students with disabilities in public schools. The purpose of the presentation was to raise awareness about alternatives to suspension for students in pre-K through second grade by highlighting effective legislation, policies, and programs in other states, local school systems, and schools within Maryland.

On June 8, 2016, Maureen van Stone delivered a 90-minute presentation to BG&E’s lunch and learn series. The presentation provided an overview of how to navigate the special education process for BG&E employees who are raising children with disabilities.

On June 8, 2016, Mallory Finn, Project HEAL staff attorney, delivered a presentation to the Eastern Shore Consortium of Care. The presentation provided an overview of the MCDD’s programs and recent activities.

On June 22 and 23, 2016, the MCDD hosted an exhibitor table at the “Partnering for School Safety and Student Success” 21st Annual Be Safe in Schools conference, sponsored by Baltimore County Public Schools.

On July 23, 2016, Mallory Finn hosted an MCDD exhibitor table at the third annual Family Resource Fair, sponsored by the Wicomico Early Childhood Council, the Wicomico County Board of Education, and the Eastern Shore Parent Resource Alliance. Hundreds of families attended the free event in Salisbury, MD.

On Thursday, September 8, 2016, Bertha’s Mussels in Fells Point will host an 11-year anniversary celebration to benefit Project HEAL from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Bertha’s will offer food and beverage specials, as well as complimentary mussels. Admission is free, and Bertha’s will donate 11% of all proceeds to benefit Project HEAL.
