People On the Go Provides Voter Education

AUGUST 5, 2015

People On the Go has been selected to provide voter education in Maryland to people with disabilities through Project VOTE, a voter education tool kit developed by self-advocates. Twenty-five individuals who received training in July will roll out the training in their local communities in collaboration with the Maryland Disability Law Center. Ken Capone, People On the Go public policy coordinator, commented that "Training is central to our mission and goes hand-in-hand with our legislative work. We dedicate much of our energy to informing advocates about the issues, so it's equally important that we teach our peers about voting."

People On the Go also educates professionals, family members, and the general community-including students of all ages-on a wide range of topics. In 2015, they presented disability awareness training to more than 70 elementary-age students, 40 LEND trainees at Kennedy Krieger, more than 1,000 nursing students, and approximately 100 students in special education.

People On the Go of Maryland is a statewide self-advocacy group that educates and advocates for all individuals with disabilities.
