A CAC orientation will take place in August 2012 and the next CAC meeting will be on September 11, 2012 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. CAC meetings occur on a quarterly basis. The MCDD will facilitate remote participation or transportation services, if necessary.  If you or anyone you know is interested in a consumer or family member position, please contact Maureen van Stone, associate director of the MCDD, at (443) 923-4416 to discuss in more detail.

Diane Dressler, Program Director, Training and Services for Adults, MCDD, was appointed as the Association of University Centers on Disabilities’ representative to the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities Housing Task Force (CCD). The CCD is a coalition of over 100 national organizations working together to advocate for national public policy that ensures the self-determination, independence, empowerment, integration, and inclusion of the 54 million children and adults with disabilities in all aspects of society. The CCD Housing Task Force advocates on behalf of the housing needs of people with a variety of disabilities, including developmental disabilities, mental illness, sensory disabilities, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities.

SUCCESS, the Students United in Campus Community Engagement for Post-Secondary Success, is an education program for students with intellectual disabilities. A partnership between the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the Maryland Department of Disabilities, SUCCESS is a pilot program that will enable Marylanders with intellectual disabilities to develop their independence, problem solving, and employment skills. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to interact with their peers in a wide array of inclusive educational, social, and recreational campus-based activities.
