Sister Organization: The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council is pleased to announce its proposed “State Plan Goals & Objectives” for fiscal year 2012 to 2016, which is now open for public comment. Comments are due on June 30, 2011.

Awards

Harolyn M.E. Belcher, MD, MH.S, director of research for the Family Center at Kennedy Krieger Institute Family Center, and a member of MCDD’s management team, was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society on May 11. She received the honor for her accomplishments after graduating from Howard University College of Medicine in 1982 and her capacity for leadership in the medical profession. 

Dr. Belcher was also recently selected by the Johns Hopkins Institutions Diversity Leadership Council to receive a 2011 Diversity Recognition Award. 

Janice Jackson, executive director of Women Embracing Abilities Now (W.E.A.N.) and a member of the MCDD Community Advisory Committee, received the distinguished honor of being named to Maryland’s Top 100 Women in April 2011. 

Virginia Knowlton, executive director of the Maryland Disability Law Center, received the distinguished honor of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in April 2011.

Judith M. Levy, MSW, LCSW-CA, MA, chair of the Ethics Committee at Kennedy Krieger Institute and a member of MCDD’s Community Advisory Committee, received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. 

Victoria Z. Sulerzyski, an associate with Ober|Kaler's Estates and Trusts Group and a member of the MCDD Community Advisory Committee, received the Pro Bono Distinguished Service Award, an honor presented by Ober|Kaler in recognition of outstanding pro bono legal service contributions made by its lawyers.  Read more about the award here.

Alliance for Full Participation (AFP) 2011
