About The Event

Participants will gain an understanding of the specific categories of Autism and other Developmental Disabilities, and of the challenges that they may face. Participants will be provided with therapeutic techniques to help manage behaviors associated within these populations. A representative from the Kennedy Krieger Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) will be present to answer questions and provide information.

The Permanency Support Group is a monthly group that provides foster, adoptive and respite parents with a forum for sharing their experience, thoughts, and feelings about addressing the permanency needs of the children and youth in their care, including, but not limited to, adoption. The group also provides parents with information and encouragement as they share challenges and celebrate success.

The Foster Parent Support Group provides foster and respite parents with an opportunity to meet together to discuss and find support around a broad range of topics. Topics include discussion of issues related to child development, attachment disorders, ADHD, educational placements and behavior issues, to name just a few.

About The Event

Participants will learn about 504 plans, IEPs, and their role as an “Educational Advocate”. Participants will learn how legal advocacy can help in obtaining the appropriate accommodations for foster children in the school setting. Representatives from Project Heal and other experienced professionals will be providing additional information & answering questions.

About The Event

This training will provide foster parents with crisis intervention skills and behavioral management strategies that they can add to their therapeutic “Tool Boxes”. These strategies will assist with helping with de-escalation, ensuring safety, and the implementation of behavioral plans that can be used day to day.

About The Event

The Gang Intelligence Unit through the Department of Juvenile Services will be conducting a presentation to educate participants about the most popular and dangerous gangs in Maryland, and how to protect children from becoming involved. Participants will also learn about intervention programs offered through the State to reduce gang involvement amongst youth. Youth ages 10 and older are encouraged to attend.
