Brain Injury Early Assessment and Intervention Clinic
Brain Injury Clinic • 707 N. Broadway • Baltimore, MD 21205
About Our Program:
Based on the experience of the Institute's brain injury specialists, the Brain Injury Early Assessment and Intervention Clinic (BI Clinic) was established to address the needs of children and adolescents who sustain moderate to severe injuries but do not require intensive rehabilitation services.
The Brain Injury Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute was designed to identify, minimize, and prevent problems following traumatic brain injury. Treatment services are provided by experienced pediatric neuropsychologists.
Who We Serve:
We treat individuals 5 to 18 years old who have sustained moderate to severe traumatic brain injury who do not need intensive rehabilitation services such as inpatient or full-day services.
We work to help our patients avoid problems with:
- Speed of processing
- Paying attention
- Organization and planning
- Emotional adjustment
- Behavior regulation
- Social judgment
What to Expect
During the visit, the neuropsychologist will discuss injuryrelated symptoms and concerns with the child and family and review relevant medical and school records. Also, specific tests of attention, memory, and speed will be administered to the child. At the end of the visit, test results will be reviewed with the family and recommendations will be provided to the family to address current problems in the home, school, and community and prevent new problems from developing. When necessary, follow up visits to monitor recovery and provide continued short-term intervention and/or referrals will be scheduled.
