Life Through Motion Wellness Program
Director:
Christy Sachs
Adapted Aquatics and Wellness Manager
About Our Program:
|
The benefits of sport and recreational activities for individuals with disabilities are well recognized from both a health and quality of life perspective, yet there remains lack of activity options in which these individuals can engage. Kennedy Krieger's International Center for Spinal Cord Injury has created a full continuum of care with its new wellness program "Life Through Motion." |

The goal of the "Life Through Motion" wellness program is to improve the quality of life for those individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) through regular and consistent physical activity. The program will offer children and adults with SCI and other neurological diseases the opportunity to get the physical activity they need to help build and improve strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, and cardiovascular health as well as to increase socialization and boost overall well-being and confidence. The program is designed to help people with SCI explore their exercise options (including aquatics, land-based exercises, functional electrical stimulation, and cardio-pulmonary activities) to enhance their quality of life.
Weight Management Program:
As a complement to our general wellness program, the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury will also offer a weight management program. Individuals who enroll in the weight management program will receive the same benefits as those enrolled in the general program, in addition to taking advantage of several exclusive benefits, such as:
- Two medical consultations with a physician
- Initial fitness level evaluation
- Personalized exercise program
