Information for Families About the Classroom and Enrollment:

If eligible, you and your child will be entered at random into one of the following interventions for six months:

  • Classroom Treatment:
    • Four days a week for 2.5 hours a day, the child will participate in a classroom with peers in an attempt to increase social communication, language abilities and other skills.
    • You will also receive parent education sessions one to three times per month for one to two hours each.
  • Parent Training:
    • Sessions are given two times a month at our center and once a month at home for 60-90 minutes each.
    • Parents are taught strategies on how to interact with their children to increase their skills.

For both interventions, you and your child will come to our center for six play-based developmental testing sessions throughout the course of intervention, and one session six months following the end of intervention. You will also be given questionnaires to complete for each of these sessions.

There are no direct medical benefits for your child, although there could be benefits to your child's communication and social development. Your child will receive three free developmental research assessments. After each assessment, you will receive a written report evaluating the development of his or her language and other skills. Your participation may advance understanding of early intervention services.
