Dr. Xiangcan Zhan is a research scientist in the International Center of Spinal Cord Injury at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Zhan received his doctoral degree in 1989 from the University of Adelaide, Australia. He was employed in the Hort Research Institute, New Zealand as a research scientist during 1990-2001. From 2001-2008, he was a faculty member in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He joined the International Center of Spinal Cord Injury at Kennedy Krieger Institute in 2008.

Research Summary:

Dr Zhan's research interests are in human embryonic stem cell biology and their application in regenerative medicine. His current focuses are differentiating oligodendrocyte cells from human embryonic stem cell and using those cells for the engrafting in the spinal cord injury mouse model.
