Jackie Krick is the director of the Nutrition Department at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. She is also an assistant professor in pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Biographical Sketch:
Jackie Krick received her master's of science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She holds a certificate of advanced study in health policy and management, and most recently a business of medicine executive medical certificate in 2000.
Krick is a clinical specialist in the field of pediatric nutrition. Her special interest is the energy needs and growth of children with cerebral palsy. Her work has incorporated clinical experience with research to develop and disseminate tools for the practitioner. Two such tools are growth chart references for children with spastic quadriplegia and a formula to calculate energy/kcalorie needs for children with cerebral palsy.
The department has available indirect calorimetry, which is a technology useful in both clinical and research arenas. This instrument is designed to accurately measure resting energy expenditure. It is particularly effective in assessing individuals on both ends of the growth spectrum -- those showing failure to thrive and those showing morbid obesity.
