Dr. Daniel Becker is a board-certified neurologist and the head of pediatric restoration therapy at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury (ICSCI) at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.


Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Becker earned his medical degree from Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg, Germany in 2001. From 2001 to 2003, he was a research assistant in neuroscience, investigating the role of embryonic stem cells in spinal cord injury repair at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, he completed his residency in internal medicine in 2004 and his residency in neurology in 2007. From there, he completed a year-long fellowship in spinal cord injury medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. As a Johns Hopkins neurology faculty member, he is currently a part of the Johns Hopkins Neurophysiology Intraoperative Monitoring Division. Dr. Becker is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.


Research Summary:

A major focus of Dr. Becker's research has been the role of neurological activity as well as embryonic stem cells in spinal cord injury repair. He is specifically focusing on pediatric models of spinal cord injury. His research has been published at numerous national and international meetings, as well as in many journals and books, including Neurology, The Neurologist, The Journal of Neurotrauma, the First Annual North American Regional Epilepsy Congress of the American Epilepsy Society and the books Principles of Tissue Engineering and Essentials of Stem Cell Biology.
