About the Event:

In this workshop, the discussion will focus on how special education services are individualized to meet the unique needs of each student, while following a Maryland Statewide framework. Included in this discussion will be mention of parental rights in the special education process and why partnership and advocacy are important. The workshop will conclude with the presentation of resources that are available to support families of children with disabilities.

This workshop is FREE and open to all parents, family members, and professionals.

About the Presenters:

Kimberly Marchman is a family support program specialist in the Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services at the Maryland State Department of Education. In addition, she is a certified secondary science teacher, mother of three children with IEPs, and was a family support professional in Harford County.

Marjorie Shulbank is a senior staff specialist in the Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services at the Maryland State Department of Education. Marjorie has more than 35 years of experience in the special education field. She has chaired the Autism Task Force, been a member of the Autism Commission, and is a parent of two adult daughters with challenges (504). She is knowledgeable about Part C and Part B of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and Medicaid waivers.
