Dear Friends and Colleagues,

After 30 years of dedicated service, we are deeply saddened to share that Dr. Hugo Moser, Director of Neurogenetics research and former President of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, passed away this weekend.

Dr. Moser was originally recruited from Harvard Medical School in 1976 to become President of Kennedy Krieger and served in that capacity for over a decade. He later went on to focus his research at Kennedy Krieger on the genetic disorder adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). For over two decades, Dr. Moser’s research and study of ALD led to critical advancements in treatment. Most recently, his landmark study of the preventative effects of Lorenzo’s Oil, proved the oil prevents the onset of disease symptoms for the vast majority of children suffering from this debilitating disorder.

Dr. Moser’s passing is a profound loss for the field of neurogenetics, the international adrenoleukodystrophy community, and all who had the privilege of working with this great man. As anyone who knew him could attest, he was far more than a dedicated faculty member at Kennedy Krieger; he was a friend and mentor to us all.

A memorial service is planned for February 3rd in Wakefield, MA. The Institute is currently making separate plans for an appropriate memorial tribute to Dr. Moser and will be sharing more details about these plans shortly.
