Child and Family Support Program

Director:

Audrey N. Leviton, L.C.S.W.-C
Mary Mueller, L.C.S.W.-C

Description of Program:

The Child and Family Support Program (CFSP) is a home and community based program that provides occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, caregiver training and mental health services and counseling for children and families living in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. This is a family-centered program that views the parent or guardian as the primary decision maker in managing their child’s therapy services.

Services:

  • Home- and community-based therapy including occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy for children aged six and under.
  • Training in the skills that will assist caregivers in caring for their child in the home.
  • Evaluation, adaptation and monitoring of specialized equipment needs in the home
  • Home and center based mental health and counseling services for children, adolescents and adults
  • Information concerning a child’s development and assistance is accessing community resources
  • A toy, book, and equipment lending library for use by families

Success Story:

A two-year old child, who had been removed form her biological family as a result of abuse, was referred to CFSP for therapy services. When she was referred, she was delayed in all areas. She could not walk independently, was not able to move from sitting to standing independently and had fewer than 20 words. Over the past two years, she and her foster family received weekly home based occupational, physical and speech therapy and parent training. These therapists have also provided suggestions that the foster parents could incorporate into their daily routines which would enhance this child’s gross and fine motor skills and improve her ability to communicate with others. She has greatly improved. She is age appropriate in her gross motor skills and near age appropriate in her fine motor skills and for speech. Most importantly, her foster family has decided to adopt her. In addition, while providing services to this child, the parents gave birth to another daughter who had speech and gross motor delays. The occupational and speech therapist also provided therapy and parent training around the needs of this child and within six months she was age appropriate in all areas.
